Submitting Sitemap to Google

    There are different ways to submite your sitemap to Google as following :

  1. Submitting Sitemaps using Google Webmaster Tools
    1. Create a new Google account if you don’t have a google/gmail account already
    2. Add and verify your site in Webmaster Tools account
      . This is the site on which the Sitemap is located and whose URLs are referenced in the Sitemap.
    3. Upload your Sitemap to your site.
    4. On the Webmaster Tools home page, click the site you want.
      Under Site configuration, click Sitemaps.
    5. In the text box, complete the path to your Sitemap (for example, if your Sitemap is at http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml, type sitemap.xml).
      Click Submit Sitemap

  2. Submitting Sitemaps using your robots.txt file

    You can tell Google and other search engines about your Sitemap by adding the following line to your robots.txt file
    Sitemap: http://example.com/sitemap_location.xml

  3. Resubmitting a Sitemap
    • Using Webmaster Tools
      1. On the Webmaster Tools Home page, click the site you want.
      2. Under Site configuration, click Sitemaps.
      3. Select the Sitemap you want to resubmit, and then click Resubmit.

      By sending Google an HTTP request

      If you do this, you don’t need to resubmit it using Webmaster Tools. The Submitted column will continue to show the last time you manually clicked the link, but the Last Downloaded column will be updated to show the last time the system fetched your Sitemap.

       

    • To Resubmit your Sitemap using an HTTP request:

  • What is a Sitemap ?
    A sitemap is a file , typically an xml file which list of pages of a web site. Search engine crawlers read these sitemaps and index the pages refrenced in the xml sitemap.
  • Why Sitemaps are needed ?
    The sites having dynamic pages only available through the use of forms and user entries can be directly accessed by crawlers. If the home page of a website is written mainly in java script or flash , search engines can’t read and can access the site . Sitemaps in such cases allows a direct pointer to the underlying pages of a website

    For non dynamic sites Sitemaps can improve search engine optimization by making sure that all the pages can be found by the crawling serach engine bot through sitemap xml file.

  • How search engines find Sitemap ?
    The instructions to the sitemap are given to the crawler bot by a Robots Text file.

  • Is Sitemap Gurantee that my site will be crawled and indexed by the search engines ?Unfortunately there is no gurantee that all your pages will be crawled and included in the search index due to guiidelines of search engines to excluding and including certain type of pages. We don’t know what these guide lines are but this is the best you can do to let search engine fine your site and its pages.
